Old Settlers' Welcomes you!
History,
Memories,
Family
Since 1846
The Historic Swedish Village of Bishop Hill is located in northwestern Illinois, USA
Who We Are
The Old Settlers' Association was organized in 1896 on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Bishop Hill Colony. In 1953 we purchased and restored the Colony School which was built in 1861.
Old Settlers' desire is to preserve the history, memories and sense of family, that was instilled in the colonists when Bishop Hill was founded, through our annual organized events.
What We Do
Each year the Old Settlers' sponsors and co-hosts events that are geared toward family fun!
Proceeds from these events contribute to preservation efforts of the Colony School built in 1861,
and purchased by us for restoration efforts in 1953.
The schoolhouse building (complete with a kitchen) and its grounds are maintained by our group and is available to rent for meetings, parties, and special occasions.
